Norwich Castle

Seeing Dan's fantastic sunset shot of Norwich Castle -
(http://shw.fotopages.com/4122018.html)
- reminded me of some picuures that I took a while back. As you will see it really looks like the real thing - with battlements a well and dungeons. It was built by the Normans as a Royal Palace 900 years ago and was used as a prison from the 14th century until 1894 when it became a museum. It's a great place to visit - I've been going since I was a child and now take our kids who just like me can spend hours dropping pennies down the well or staring at the poor old shrivelled mummy (makes a change from me!!)

This is an amazing structure. I am always in awe of the engineering that was completed those many centuries ago. Mon 7-Feb-2005 14:38

I may be living in South Africa now but I'm Norwich born and bred... the castle has always been a favorite and the wishing well the best bit! Hours and hours can be spent in there. Great photos Tue 22-Feb-2005 20:13

Photo Challenge 58 - Clueless

I had no idea this was going on in the back of my fridge! And how guilty I felt - all those wasted air miles for strawberries in winter!

Grey day

View all 10 photos...
This morning the sun was shining and the birds were singing and it really seemed like spring. By the time I was able to get out with the camera things had got grey again. All of these shots were taken on a very short walk from our house. Once again I found myself taking pictures of puddles.....

Like the reflected tower in # 2. Mon 31-Jan-2005 00:55

Photo Challenge 57 - Magic

This strange magic ring appeared in the sky over our house last year - it looks just like a halo which is quite appropriate as our house used to be a Methodist chapel!

I remember it well, I was on my way to a gig in the city and everyone basically stopped their cars in the road to check it out. Poor old Canaries...I'm not gutted as a pessimist is never dissapointed but we have been a bit on the unlucky side to say the least... Thu 3-Feb-2005 18:27

Castle Acre Priory

View all 12 photos...
This is one of our favourite historic places to visit....
"Castle Acre Priory was inspired by the monastery at Cluny in France and was home to a community of monks until 1537, when Henry VIII disbanded all monastic houses. The village stands on the Pilgrim routes to Thetford, Bromholm Priory and Walsingham. The priory's ruins span seven centuries and include a beautiful 12th-century church with an elaborately decorated west front, still rising to its full height, a 15th-century gatehouse and a porch and prior's lodging still fit to live in." (From the English Heritage website)

A very useful library of pictures, thanks for making them available. I have linked them to my site The Overgrown Path (http://theovergrownpath.blogspot.com) which has more thoughts and reflections on the monastic order, and much more...

Something pink and fluffy

View all 6 photos...
Today is meant to be the most depressing day of the year according to the media...we're all cold, the weather's miserable, the credit card bills from Christmas have come in and we've all failed in keeping our New Year's resolutions. Perhaps its because I'm a suggestible person but I couldn't help feeling a bit glum....

Here's soemthing pink and fluffy to cheer anyone up who may be feeling the same!

Here's something to cheer you up---your dog did not roll in turkey poop, unlike mine. Great study on the feather duster. 5 & 6 almost look like roses. Tue 25-Jan-2005 16:10

Didn't go anywhere today - just pottered around taking photos of anything and everything. Decided on black and white after watching the Third Man...

What a contrast from yesterday's entry. Now I have to run around with my camera on the b&w setting. But it's so gray and brown here, I don't know that it will make any difference. Mon 24-Jan-2005 01:45

Lovely tones in everything. #1 my favourite - up my street. Yes, there's still hope. Great comeback but very disapointed at the way we defended in the first place. Has your dad got the best job in Norwich? Sorry about my confusing page - had the settings wrong. sorted now! Wed 26-Jan-2005 13:42

After the rain

More garden shots from the summer...

What a week it's been. Hubby has been laid up with the flu for most of the week so I've been left holding the fort - looking after the kids, running house and working as well. Woke up this morning feeling a bit under the weather too as did my son. Nevertheless we set off for the Saturday morning dancing and swimming classes - me feeling guilty I that I'd shouted at the kids as we were running late. The viewing room and changing rooms at the pool were unbelievably hot which left my son and I feeling even worse so he decided to skip his lesson. We're now all tucked up for the weekend. The kids are watching 'Fiddler of the Roof' on the telly while mum "chats to her fotopage mates" . Didn't feel inspired enough to take any new pics but these, from last summer, brightened me up a bit!

These are just beautiful...sometimes all it takes is some rain to bring out the beauty... Sun 23-Jan-2005 14:54

A bit of jousting...

View all 12 photos...
These photos were taken at the end of last summer at Old Buckenham Country Fayre. Old Buckenham is a typical English Village with a large village green and two great pubs. The fayre takes place every year and has loads of entertainment including a fun fair, craft stall, local bands, hot air balloon, morris dancing, falconry and a jousting display - a breathtaking show performed by The Company of Horseman.

Wow....these are neat. There is a Rennaissance Fair up near Minneapolis every year, and they do this up there, as well.....GREAT SHOTS!! Fri 21-Jan-2005 19:19

JP, you gotta catch a faire. You can, of course, be the jester. I've done RenFair's in both CA and KS, though not as a costumed participant. Great fun for the entire family and great photo opps! Fri 21-Jan-2005 23:18

Debbie---didn't mean to totally ignore your photos in my chit chat with JP. You got some great action captures here and I especially like photo 9, The billowing flag and cape and the perfect pose of the horse make it an A+ picture. Sat 22-Jan-2005 05:06
